Las aventuras de Sherlock Holmes
The Adventure of the Noble Bachelor
Capítulo 10, Página 28
"Then
I
hope
you
will
at
least
join
me,"
said
Sherlock
Holmes.
"It's
always
a
pleasure
to
meet
an
American,
Mr.
Moulton.
I
believe
that
one
day,
despite
past
mistakes
by
leaders,
our
children
will
live
in
a
world
where
the
Union
Jack
and
the
Stars
and
Stripes
are
on
the
same
flag."
"This
case
was
interesting,"
Holmes
said
after
our
guests
left.
"It
shows
how
simple
the
explanation
can
be
for
something
that
seems
very
confusing
at
first.
The
events,
as
the
lady
described
them,
were
quite
natural.
But
to
someone
like
Mr.
Lestrade
from
Scotland
Yard,
the
outcome
seemed
very
strange."
"So
you
weren't
at
fault
at
all,
then?"
"From
the
start,
two
things
were
clear
to
me.
First,
the
lady
was
willing
to
marry,
and
second,
she
regretted
it
soon
after
getting
home.
Something
must
have
happened
that
morning
to
make
her
change
her
mind.
What
could
it
be?
She
couldn't
have
talked
to
anyone
outside
because
she
was
with
the
groom.
Did
she
see
someone?
If
she
did,
it
must
be
someone
from
America.
She
hadn't
been
here
long
enough
for
anyone
else
to
have
such
an
influence
on
her.
So,
we
thought
she
might
have
seen
an
American.
Who
could
this
American
be,
and
why
did
he
affect
her
so
much?
He
could
be
a
lover
or
a
husband.
Her
past
was
spent
in
rough
places
under
unusual
conditions.
This
was
my
theory
before
I
heard
Lord
St.
Simon's
story.
When
he
mentioned
a
man
in
the
church,
the
bride's
change
in
behavior,
the
note
hidden
in
the
bouquet,
her
talk
with
her
maid,
and
her
comment
about
claim-jumping,
everything
became
clear.
She
left
with
a
man,
and
he
was
either
a
lover
or,
more
likely,
a
previous
husband."
"How
did
you
find
them?"
"It
could
have
been
hard,
but
Lestrade
had
important
information
he
didn't
realize.
The
initials
were
crucial,
but
even
more
important
was
knowing
he
had
paid
his
bill
at
a
top
London
hotel
within
a
week."
"How
did
you
know
it
was
a
top
hotel?"
"The
prices
gave
it
away.
Eight
shillings
for
a
bed
and
eightpence
for
a
glass
of
sherry
meant
it
was
one
of
the
most
expensive
hotels.
There
aren't
many
in
London
that
charge
those
rates.
At
the
second
hotel
I
checked
on
Northumberland
Avenue,
I
found
that
Francis
H.
Moulton,
an
American,
had
left
the
day
before.
The
bill
matched
what
I
had
seen.
His
letters
were
to
be
sent
to
226
Gordon
Square.
I
went
there
and
found
the
couple
at
home.
I
gave
them
some
advice,
suggesting
they
should
clear
up
their
situation
for
everyone,
especially
Lord
St.
Simon.
I
invited
them
to
meet
him
here,
and
as
you
see,
I
made
sure
he
came."
