Las aventuras de Sherlock Holmes
The Adventure of the Copper Beeches
Capítulo 12, Página 23
"You've
done
very
well!"
Holmes
said
enthusiastically.
"Now
lead
the
way,
and
we'll
soon
see
the
end
of
this
dark
affair."
We
went
upstairs,
unlocked
the
door,
and
followed
a
passage
to
the
barricade
Miss
Hunter
described.
Holmes
cut
the
cord
and
removed
the
bar.
He
tried
several
keys
in
the
lock
but
had
no
success.
No
sound
came
from
inside,
and
the
silence
worried
Holmes.
"I
hope
we're
not
too
late,"
he
said.
"Miss
Hunter,
I
think
it's
best
if
you
stay
here.
Now,
Watson,
let's
see
if
we
can
get
in."
The
old
door
was
weak
and
gave
way
at
once
when
we
pushed
together.
We
rushed
into
the
room.
It
was
empty.
There
was
only
a
small
bed,
a
table,
and
a
basket
of
linen.
The
skylight
above
was
open,
and
the
prisoner
was
gone.
"There
has
been
some
foul
play
here,"
said
Holmes.
"The
man
guessed
Miss
Hunter's
plans
and
took
his
victim
away."
"But
how?"
"Through
the
skylight.
We'll
soon
see
how
he
did
it."
He
climbed
onto
the
roof.
"Ah,
yes,"
he
said,
"here's
a
long
light
ladder
against
the
eaves.
That's
how
he
did
it."
"But
that's
impossible,"
said
Miss
Hunter.
"The
ladder
wasn't
there
when
the
Rucastles
left."
