interesting

I
replied.

we

Mary
Sutherland’s

problem,

strange
things,
we
should
look
at
real
life.

more
daring
than
anything
we
can
imagine.”
“I
had
my
doubts
about

but

keep
giving

facts

agree.
Now,
Mr.
Jabez
Wilson
has
come
to
me
with
a
story
that
promises
to
be
one
of
the
most
unusual
I’ve
heard
in
a
while.
You’ve
heard
me
say
that
the
strangest
things
often
involve
small
crimes
or
even
no
crime
at
all.
I
can’t
say
if
this
case
involves
a
crime,
but
it’s
certainly
unique.
Mr.
Wilson,
could
you
please
start
your
story
again?
Dr.
Watson
hasn’t
heard
the
beginning,
and
I
want
all
the
details.
Usually,
I
can
connect
events
with
other
cases
I
know,
but
this
one
seems
unique.”
The
large
man
looked
proud
and
took
a
dirty
newspaper
from
his
coat
pocket.
As
he
looked
at
the
ads,
I
studied
him,
trying
to
read
clues
from
his
appearance
as
Holmes
would.
I
didn’t
learn
much
from
looking
at
him.
He
seemed
like
an
average
British
tradesman—overweight,
self-important,
and
slow.
He
wore
loose
grey
trousers,
a
not
very
clean
black
coat,
and
a
dull
vest
with
a
heavy
chain.
A
worn
top-hat
and
an
old
brown
coat
with
a
velvet
collar
were
on
a
chair.
There
was
nothing
special
about
him
except
his
bright
red
hair
and
his
unhappy
expression.
Holmes
noticed
me
studying
him
and
smiled,
shaking
his
head.
“Besides
the
obvious
facts
that
he
did
manual
work,
takes
snuff,
is
a
Freemason,
has
been
to
China,
and
has
written
a
lot
lately,
I
can’t
deduce
anything
else.”
Mr.
Jabez
Wilson
sat
up,
pointing
at
the
paper
but
looking
at
Holmes.
