Las aventuras de Sherlock Holmes
The Red-Headed League
Capítulo 2, Página 4
Mr.
Jabez
Wilson
laughed
loudly.
“Well,
I
never!”
he
said.
“I
thought
you
did
something
clever,
but
I
see
it’s
nothing.”
“I
think,
Watson,”
said
Holmes,
“that
I
make
a
mistake
by
explaining.
‘Omne
ignotum
pro
magnifico,’
you
know.
My
reputation
will
suffer
if
I’m
too
open.
Can
you
find
the
ad,
Mr.
Wilson?”
“Yes,
I
have
it,”
he
said,
pointing
to
the
column.
“Here
it
is.
This
is
what
started
everything.
Read
it
yourself,
sir.”
I
took
the
paper
and
read:
“TO
THE
RED-HEADED
LEAGUE:
Due
to
the
bequest
of
the
late
Ezekiah
Hopkins,
of
Lebanon,
Pennsylvania,
U.S.A.,
there
is
a
vacancy
with
a
salary
of
£4
a
week
for
nominal
services.
All
red-headed
men,
healthy
in
body
and
mind,
over
twenty-one,
can
apply.
Apply
in
person
on
Monday
at
eleven
o’clock
to
Duncan
Ross,
at
the
League’s
offices,
7
Pope’s
Court,
Fleet
Street.”
“What
does
this
mean?”
I
exclaimed
after
reading
the
strange
ad
twice.
Holmes
chuckled
and
moved
in
his
chair,
as
he
did
when
excited.
“It’s
unusual,
isn’t
it?”
he
said.
“Now,
Mr.
Wilson,
please
tell
us
about
yourself,
your
home,
and
how
this
ad
affected
you.
Doctor,
note
the
paper
and
date.”
“It’s
The
Morning
Chronicle
of
April
27,
1890.
Two
months
ago.”
