Las aventuras de Sherlock Holmes
The Red-Headed League
Capítulo 2, Página 5
“Very
good.
Now,
Mr.
Wilson?”
"As
I
have
been
telling
you,
Mr.
Sherlock
Holmes,"
said
Jabez
Wilson,
wiping
his
forehead,
"I
run
a
small
pawnbroker's
shop
at
Coburg
Square,
near
the
City.
It's
not
a
big
business,
and
in
recent
years,
it
only
just
gives
me
a
living.
I
used
to
have
two
assistants,
but
now
I
only
have
one.
I
would
struggle
to
pay
him
if
he
wasn't
willing
to
work
for
half
wages
to
learn
the
business."
"What
is
the
name
of
this
helpful
young
man?"
asked
Sherlock
Holmes.
"His
name
is
Vincent
Spaulding,
and
he's
not
that
young.
It's
hard
to
tell
his
age.
I
wouldn't
want
a
smarter
assistant,
Mr.
Holmes,
and
I
know
he
could
earn
twice
what
I
pay
him.
But
if
he's
happy,
why
should
I
put
ideas
in
his
head?"
"Indeed,
you
are
lucky
to
have
an
employee
who
works
for
less
than
the
market
rate.
It’s
not
common
for
employers
these
days.
Your
assistant
seems
as
interesting
as
your
advertisement."
"Oh,
he
has
his
faults,"
said
Mr.
Wilson.
"He's
always
taking
photos
when
he
should
be
working,
and
then
he
goes
into
the
cellar
to
develop
them.
That's
his
main
fault,
but
overall
he's
a
good
worker.
There's
no
harm
in
him."
"Is
he
still
working
with
you?"
"Yes,
sir.
It's
just
him
and
a
fourteen-year-old
girl
who
cooks
and
cleans
a
bit.
That's
all
I
have
at
home
since
I'm
a
widower
with
no
family.
We
live
quietly,
the
three
of
us,
and
we
manage
to
keep
a
roof
over
our
heads
and
pay
our
debts."
