Las aventuras de Sherlock Holmes
The Boscombe Valley Mystery
Capítulo 4, Página 24
"Holmes,"
I
said,
"you
have
trapped
this
man
in
a
net
from
which
he
cannot
escape,
and
you
have
saved
an
innocent
life
as
surely
as
if
you
had
cut
the
cord
that
was
hanging
him.
I
see
where
all
this
leads.
The
culprit
is—"
"Mr.
John
Turner,"
cried
the
hotel
waiter,
opening
the
door
of
our
sitting-room
and
bringing
in
a
visitor.
The
man
who
entered
was
a
strange
and
impressive
figure.
His
slow,
limping
step
and
bent
shoulders
made
him
look
old,
yet
his
hard,
deep-lined,
craggy
features,
and
his
large
limbs
showed
he
had
unusual
strength
of
body
and
character.
His
tangled
beard,
grizzled
hair,
and
drooping
eyebrows
gave
him
an
air
of
dignity
and
power,
but
his
face
was
ashen
white,
and
his
lips
and
nostrils
had
a
hint
of
blue.
I
could
see
immediately
that
he
was
suffering
from
a
serious
and
chronic
disease.
"Please
sit
down
on
the
sofa,"
said
Holmes
gently.
"Did
you
get
my
note?"
"Yes,
the
lodge-keeper
brought
it.
You
said
you
wanted
to
see
me
here
to
avoid
scandal."
"I
thought
people
would
talk
if
I
went
to
the
Hall."
"And
why
did
you
want
to
see
me?"
He
looked
at
my
companion
with
despair
in
his
tired
eyes,
as
if
his
question
was
already
answered.
"Yes,"
said
Holmes,
responding
to
the
look
rather
than
the
words.
"It
is
so.
I
know
all
about
McCarthy."
