Las aventuras de Sherlock Holmes
The Boscombe Valley Mystery
Capítulo 4, Página 25
The
old
man
buried
his
face
in
his
hands.
"God
help
me!"
he
cried.
"But
I
wouldn't
have
let
the
young
man
come
to
harm.
I
promise
you
I
would
have
spoken
out
if
it
had
gone
against
him
at
the
Assizes."
"I
am
glad
to
hear
you
say
so,"
said
Holmes
seriously.
"I
would
have
spoken
now
if
it
weren't
for
my
dear
girl.
It
would
break
her
heart—it
will
break
her
heart
when
she
hears
that
I'm
arrested."
"It
may
not
come
to
that,"
said
Holmes.
"What?"
"I'm
not
an
official
agent.
I
understand
that
it
was
your
daughter
who
asked
me
to
be
here,
and
I'm
acting
in
her
interests.
But
young
McCarthy
must
be
freed."
"I'm
a
dying
man,"
said
old
Turner.
"I've
had
diabetes
for
years.
My
doctor
says
it's
uncertain
whether
I'll
live
a
month.
Yet
I'd
rather
die
at
home
than
in
a
jail."
Holmes
stood
up
and
sat
at
the
table
with
a
pen
in
his
hand
and
a
stack
of
paper
in
front
of
him.
"Just
tell
us
the
truth,"
he
said.
"I'll
write
down
the
facts.
You
will
sign
it,
and
Watson
here
can
witness
it.
Then
I
could
use
your
confession
if
it's
absolutely
necessary
to
save
young
McCarthy.
I
promise
I
won't
use
it
unless
it's
needed."
