Las aventuras de Sherlock Holmes
The Man with the Twisted Lip
Capítulo 6, Página 25
"Ha!
You're
a
funny
one,"
chuckled
the
inspector.
"Now,
if
you
would
kindly
open
that
door
very
quietly,
we
will
soon
make
him
look
much
more
respectable."
"Well,
I
don't
see
why
not,"
said
the
inspector.
"He
doesn't
look
good
for
the
Bow
Street
cells,
does
he?"
He
put
his
key
in
the
lock,
and
we
all
quietly
entered
the
cell.
The
sleeper
half
turned,
then
settled
back
into
a
deep
sleep.
Holmes
bent
down
to
the
water
jug,
wet
his
sponge,
and
rubbed
it
firmly
across
the
prisoner's
face.
"Let
me
introduce
you,"
he
shouted,
"to
Mr.
Neville
St.
Clair,
of
Lee,
in
Kent."
I've
never
seen
anything
like
it.
The
man's
face
peeled
away
under
the
sponge
like
bark
from
a
tree.
The
coarse
brown
color
was
gone!
The
horrible
scar
and
twisted
lip
that
made
his
face
ugly
disappeared!
A
quick
pull
took
off
the
tangled
red
hair,
and
there,
sitting
up
in
bed,
was
a
pale,
sad-faced,
refined-looking
man,
with
black
hair
and
smooth
skin.
He
rubbed
his
eyes
and
looked
around
in
sleepy
confusion.
Suddenly
realizing
what
had
happened,
he
screamed
and
buried
his
face
in
the
pillow.
"Great
heavens!"
cried
the
inspector.
"It
is
indeed
the
missing
man.
I
recognize
him
from
the
photograph."
The
prisoner
turned
with
the
careless
air
of
someone
who
accepts
his
fate.
"So
be
it,"
he
said.
"And
what
am
I
charged
with?"
"With
making
away
with
Mr.
Neville
St.—
Oh,
come,
you
can't
be
charged
with
that
unless
they
make
it
attempted
suicide,"
said
the
inspector
with
a
grin.
"Well,
I've
been
in
the
force
for
twenty-seven
years,
but
this
is
really
something."
