Las aventuras de Sherlock Holmes
The Man with the Twisted Lip
Capítulo 6, Página 4
"I
am.
But
you’re
mistaken,
Watson.
I’ve
only
been
here
a
few
hours,
three
pipes,
four
pipes—I
forget.
But
I’ll
go
home
with
you.
I
wouldn’t
want
to
scare
Kate—poor
little
Kate.
Give
me
your
hand!
Do
you
have
a
cab?"
"Yes,
I
have
one
waiting."
"Then
I’ll
go
in
it.
But
I
must
owe
something.
Find
out
what
I
owe,
Watson.
I'm
too
out
of
sorts
to
do
anything."
I
walked
down
the
narrow
path
between
the
rows
of
sleepers,
holding
my
breath
to
avoid
the
drug's
vile
fumes,
looking
for
the
manager.
As
I
passed
the
tall
man
by
the
brazier,
I
felt
a
sudden
tug
at
my
coat,
and
a
low
voice
whispered,
"Walk
past
me,
then
look
back."
The
words
were
clear.
I
glanced
down.
They
could
only
have
come
from
the
old
man
beside
me,
yet
he
sat
as
absorbed
as
ever,
thin
and
wrinkled,
an
opium
pipe
hanging
between
his
knees.
I
took
two
steps
forward
and
looked
back.
It
took
all
my
self-control
not
to
cry
out
in
surprise.
He
had
turned
so
only
I
could
see
him.
His
form
was
filled
out,
wrinkles
gone,
eyes
bright,
and
there,
grinning
at
my
surprise,
was
Sherlock
Holmes.
He
motioned
for
me
to
approach
and,
as
he
turned
his
face
back
to
the
room,
returned
to
his
act
of
doddering
senility.
"Holmes!"
I
whispered,
"What
on
earth
are
you
doing
in
this
den?"
"Speak
as
quietly
as
you
can,"
he
said.
"I
have
very
good
ears.
If
you
could
kindly
get
rid
of
that
drunk
friend
of
yours,
I'd
be
happy
to
talk
with
you."
"I
have
a
cab
waiting
outside."
"Then
please
send
him
home
in
it.
You
can
trust
him;
he
seems
too
weak
to
cause
any
trouble.
I
also
suggest
you
send
a
note
with
the
cab
driver
to
your
wife,
telling
her
you
are
staying
with
me.
If
you
wait
outside,
I'll
join
you
in
five
minutes."
