Las aventuras de Sherlock Holmes
The Adventure of the Speckled Band
Capítulo 8, Página 1
As
I
look
back
on
the
seventy
cases
I've
studied
with
my
friend
Sherlock
Holmes
over
the
past
eight
years,
I
see
many
were
tragic,
some
were
funny,
and
most
were
strange,
but
none
were
ordinary.
Holmes
worked
more
for
the
love
of
solving
mysteries
than
for
money,
and
he
avoided
cases
that
weren't
unusual
or
even
fantastic.
Among
all
these
cases,
I
remember
one
involving
the
well-known
Roylott
family
from
Stoke
Moran
in
Surrey.
The
events
happened
early
in
my
time
with
Holmes
when
we
shared
rooms
in
Baker
Street.
I
might
have
told
this
story
earlier,
but
I
promised
to
keep
it
secret
until
recently.
The
lady
I
promised
has
passed
away,
and
I
think
it's
good
to
reveal
the
truth
now.
There
are
rumors
about
Dr.
Grimesby
Roylott's
death
that
make
it
seem
worse
than
it
was.
It
was
early
April
in
1883
when
I
woke
up
to
find
Sherlock
Holmes
standing
by
my
bed,
fully
dressed.
He
usually
got
up
late,
so
I
was
surprised
to
see
him
at
quarter-past
seven.
I
was
a
bit
annoyed
because
I
liked
to
keep
regular
habits.
"Sorry
to
wake
you,
Watson,"
he
said.
"But
it's
a
busy
morning.
Mrs.
Hudson
woke
me
up,
and
now
I'm
waking
you."
"What's
happening?
Is
there
a
fire?"
"No,
it's
a
client.
A
young
lady
came
in
very
excited
and
insisted
on
seeing
me.
She's
waiting
in
the
sitting-room.
When
young
ladies
wander
the
city
at
this
hour,
it
must
be
urgent.
If
it's
an
interesting
case,
I
know
you'd
want
to
be
involved
from
the
start.
So
I
thought
I'd
give
you
the
chance."
"I
wouldn't
miss
it
for
anything,
my
friend."
I
loved
joining
Holmes
on
his
investigations
and
watching
his
quick
deductions.
They
seemed
like
intuition
but
were
always
logical.
I
dressed
quickly
and
was
ready
in
minutes
to
go
with
him
to
the
sitting-room.
A
lady
in
black,
heavily
veiled,
stood
up
when
we
entered.
"Good
morning,
madam,"
Holmes
said
cheerfully.
"I'm
Sherlock
Holmes.
This
is
Dr.
Watson,
my
close
friend.
You
can
speak
freely
in
front
of
him.
I'm
glad
Mrs.
Hudson
lit
the
fire.
Please
sit
by
it,
and
I'll
get
you
a
hot
coffee.
I
see
you're
shivering."
