Las aventuras de Sherlock Holmes
The Adventure of the Speckled Band
Capítulo 8, Página 2
"It's
not
the
cold,"
she
said
quietly,
moving
to
the
seat.
"What
is
it,
then?"
"It's
fear,
Mr.
Holmes.
It's
terror."
She
lifted
her
veil,
and
we
saw
she
was
very
upset.
Her
face
was
drawn
and
gray,
with
scared
eyes
like
a
hunted
animal.
She
seemed
around
thirty,
but
her
hair
was
already
gray,
and
she
looked
tired
and
worn
out.
Holmes
gave
her
a
quick,
thorough
look.
"Don't
be
afraid,"
he
said
gently,
patting
her
arm.
"We'll
sort
this
out
soon,
I'm
sure.
You
came
by
train
this
morning,
didn't
you?"
"You
know
me,
then?"
"No,
but
I
see
the
second
half
of
a
return
ticket
in
your
left
glove.
You
must
have
started
early
and
had
a
long
drive
in
a
dog-cart
on
muddy
roads
before
reaching
the
station."
The
lady
jumped
and
stared
at
him,
amazed.
"There's
no
mystery,
madam,"
he
said,
smiling.
"Your
jacket's
left
arm
has
fresh
mud
spots
in
seven
places.
Only
a
dog-cart
splashes
mud
like
that,
and
only
if
you
sit
on
the
driver's
left
side."
