Las aventuras de Sherlock Holmes
The Adventure of the Speckled Band
Capítulo 8, Página 18
"Ah!
That’s
interesting.
On
the
other
side
of
this
narrow
wing
is
the
corridor
from
which
these
three
rooms
open.
There
are
windows
there,
right?"
"Yes,
but
they
are
very
small.
Too
narrow
for
anyone
to
get
through."
"Since
you
both
locked
your
doors
at
night,
no
one
could
approach
from
that
side.
Now,
could
you
please
go
into
your
room
and
bar
your
shutters?"
Miss
Stoner
did
as
he
asked.
Holmes
carefully
examined
the
open
window
and
tried
to
force
the
shutter
open,
but
he
couldn’t.
There
was
no
gap
for
a
knife
to
lift
the
bar.
Then
he
used
his
lens
to
check
the
hinges,
but
they
were
solid
iron,
firmly
built
into
the
stone.
"Hmm,"
he
said,
scratching
his
chin,
"my
theory
has
some
problems.
No
one
could
get
past
these
shutters
if
they
were
bolted.
Well,
let’s
see
if
the
inside
gives
us
any
clues."
A
small
side
door
led
into
the
whitewashed
corridor
from
which
the
three
bedrooms
opened.
Holmes
didn’t
want
to
check
the
third
room,
so
we
went
straight
to
the
second,
where
Miss
Stoner
now
slept
and
where
her
sister
had
died.
It
was
a
simple
room
with
a
low
ceiling
and
a
large
fireplace
like
old
country
houses.
A
brown
chest
of
drawers
was
in
one
corner,
a
narrow
bed
with
a
white
cover
in
another,
and
a
dressing
table
on
the
left
of
the
window.
There
were
also
two
small
wicker
chairs
and
a
square
of
Wilton
carpet
in
the
center.
The
boards
and
wall
panels
were
of
old,
brown,
worm-eaten
oak.
Holmes
pulled
a
chair
into
a
corner
and
sat
silently,
looking
around
the
room.
"Where
does
that
bell
connect
to?"
he
asked,
pointing
to
a
thick
bell-rope
hanging
beside
the
bed,
its
tassel
on
the
pillow.
"It
goes
to
the
housekeeper’s
room."
"It
looks
newer
than
the
other
things?"
