Las aventuras de Sherlock Holmes
The Adventure of the Speckled Band
Capítulo 8, Página 28
"Holmes,"
I
cried,
"I
think
I
understand
what
you're
suggesting.
We
are
just
in
time
to
stop
a
terrible
crime."
"Subtle
and
horrible
indeed.
When
a
doctor
goes
wrong,
he
is
the
worst
criminal.
He
has
nerve
and
knowledge.
Palmer
and
Pritchard
were
among
the
best
in
their
field.
This
man
strikes
even
deeper,
but
I
think,
Watson,
that
we
can
strike
deeper
still.
But
we
will
face
horrors
before
the
night
ends;
let's
enjoy
a
quiet
smoke
and
think
about
something
more
cheerful
for
a
few
hours."
Around
nine
o'clock,
the
light
among
the
trees
went
out,
and
all
was
dark
in
the
direction
of
the
Manor
House.
Two
hours
passed
slowly,
and
then,
suddenly,
just
as
the
clock
struck
eleven,
a
single
bright
light
appeared
right
in
front
of
us.
"That's
our
signal,"
said
Holmes,
jumping
to
his
feet;
"it
comes
from
the
middle
window."
As
we
left,
he
spoke
briefly
with
the
landlord,
saying
we
were
visiting
a
friend
and
might
spend
the
night
there.
A
moment
later,
we
were
on
the
dark
road,
a
cold
wind
in
our
faces,
and
a
single
yellow
light
guiding
us
through
the
gloom
on
our
serious
mission.
Entering
the
grounds
was
easy,
as
there
were
gaps
in
the
old
park
wall.
Moving
through
the
trees,
we
reached
the
lawn,
crossed
it,
and
were
about
to
enter
through
the
window
when
suddenly,
from
a
group
of
laurel
bushes,
a
strange,
twisted
figure
dashed
out,
threw
itself
on
the
grass,
and
then
ran
quickly
into
the
darkness.
"My
God!"
I
whispered;
"did
you
see
it?"
Holmes
was
just
as
surprised
as
I
was.
His
hand
gripped
my
wrist
tightly
in
his
excitement.
Then
he
laughed
quietly
and
whispered
in
my
ear.
