Las aventuras de Sherlock Holmes
The Adventure of the Noble Bachelor
Capítulo 10, Página 27
"I
saw
it
in
a
newspaper,"
the
American
explained.
"It
mentioned
the
church
and
the
name
but
not
where
she
lived."
"We
discussed
what
to
do,
and
Frank
wanted
to
be
open,
but
I
was
so
ashamed
I
wished
to
disappear,
perhaps
just
sending
a
note
to
Pa
to
show
I
was
alive.
The
thought
of
all
those
lords
and
ladies
waiting
for
me
at
breakfast
was
dreadful.
So
Frank
took
my
wedding
clothes
and
belongings,
bundled
them
up,
and
disposed
of
them
to
avoid
being
traced.
We
might
have
gone
to
Paris
tomorrow,
but
this
good
man,
Mr.
Holmes,
found
us
tonight.
He
kindly
showed
me
I
was
wrong
and
Frank
was
right,
and
that
secrecy
would
only
harm
us.
He
offered
us
a
chance
to
speak
with
Lord
St.
Simon
alone,
so
we
came
here
immediately.
Now,
Robert,
you've
heard
everything,
and
I'm
truly
sorry
if
I
caused
you
pain.
I
hope
you
don't
think
too
poorly
of
me."
Lord
St.
Simon
remained
stiff,
listening
with
a
frown
and
tight
lips
to
her
story.
"Excuse
me,"
he
said,
"but
I
don't
usually
discuss
my
private
matters
in
public."
"So
you
won't
forgive
me?
You
won't
shake
hands
before
I
leave?"
"Oh,
certainly,
if
it
pleases
you."
He
extended
his
hand,
coldly
shaking
hers.
"I
hoped,"
Holmes
suggested,
"that
you
might
join
us
for
a
friendly
supper."
"I
think
that's
asking
too
much,"
his
Lordship
replied.
"I
may
have
to
accept
these
developments,
but
I
can't
celebrate
them.
With
your
permission,
I'll
wish
you
all
a
good
night."
He
bowed
to
us
all
and
left
the
room.
