Las aventuras de Sherlock Holmes
The Adventure of the Beryl Coronet
Capítulo 11, Página 19
"It's
on
the
dressing
table."
Sherlock
Holmes
picked
it
up
and
opened
the
bureau.
"It's
a
silent
lock,"
he
said.
"No
wonder
it
didn't
wake
you.
This
case
must
hold
the
coronet.
Let's
take
a
look."
He
opened
the
case,
took
out
the
diadem,
and
placed
it
on
the
table.
It
was
a
stunning
piece
of
jewelry,
and
the
thirty-six
stones
were
the
finest
I
had
ever
seen.
One
side
of
the
coronet
had
a
cracked
edge,
where
a
corner
with
three
gems
had
been
torn
off.
"Now,
Mr.
Holder,"
said
Holmes,
"here's
the
corner
that
matches
the
one
that's
missing.
Could
you
break
it
off?"
The
banker
stepped
back
in
shock.
"I
wouldn't
dream
of
trying,"
he
said.
"Then
I
will."
Holmes
suddenly
applied
his
strength,
but
nothing
happened.
"I
feel
it
give
a
little,"
he
said.
"But
even
with
my
strong
fingers,
it
would
take
a
lot
to
break
it.
An
ordinary
man
couldn't
do
it.
Now,
what
do
you
think
would
happen
if
I
did
break
it,
Mr.
Holder?
It
would
sound
like
a
gunshot.
Are
you
telling
me
this
happened
just
a
few
yards
from
your
bed
and
you
heard
nothing?"
"I
don't
know
what
to
think.
It's
all
a
mystery
to
me."
"But
maybe
it
will
become
clearer
as
we
go.
What
do
you
think,
Miss
Holder?"
