Las aventuras de Sherlock Holmes
The Adventure of the Copper Beeches
Capítulo 12, Página 11
It
wasn't
long
before
Holmes's
prediction
came
true.
Two
weeks
passed,
during
which
I
often
thought
about
her,
wondering
what
strange
path
she
had
wandered
into.
The
high
salary,
strange
conditions,
and
light
duties
suggested
something
unusual,
though
whether
it
was
a
whim
or
a
scheme,
or
if
the
man
was
a
philanthropist
or
a
villain,
I
couldn't
determine.
As
for
Holmes,
I
noticed
he
often
sat
for
half
an
hour
with
a
thoughtful
look,
but
when
I
mentioned
it,
he
dismissed
it
with
a
wave.
"Data!
data!
data!"
he
said
impatiently.
"I
can't
make
bricks
without
clay."
Yet
he
would
always
end
by
muttering
that
no
sister
of
his
should
ever
have
taken
such
a
job.
The
telegram
we
eventually
received
arrived
late
one
night
as
I
was
about
to
go
to
bed
and
Holmes
was
settling
into
one
of
his
all-night
chemical
experiments.
I
would
leave
him
over
a
retort
and
test
tube
at
night
and
find
him
in
the
same
position
at
breakfast.
He
opened
the
yellow
envelope
and,
after
glancing
at
the
message,
tossed
it
to
me.
"Check
the
train
schedule
in
Bradshaw,"
he
said,
turning
back
to
his
chemical
studies.
The
message
was
brief
and
urgent.
"Please
be
at
the
Black
Swan
Hotel
in
Winchester
by
noon
tomorrow,"
it
read.
"Do
come!
I'm
at
my
wit's
end."
"HUNTER."
"Will
you
come
with
me?"
Holmes
asked,
looking
up.
"I
would
like
to."
