Las aventuras de Sherlock Holmes
The Adventure of the Copper Beeches
Capítulo 12, Página 23
"You've
done
very
well!"
Holmes
exclaimed
with
enthusiasm.
"Now
lead
the
way,
and
we'll
soon
see
the
end
of
this
dark
business."
We
went
upstairs,
unlocked
the
door,
followed
a
passage,
and
found
ourselves
before
the
barricade
Miss
Hunter
described.
Holmes
cut
the
cord
and
removed
the
bar.
He
tried
several
keys
in
the
lock,
but
none
worked.
There
was
no
sound
from
inside,
and
Holmes'
face
darkened
at
the
silence.
"I
hope
we're
not
too
late,"
he
said.
"Miss
Hunter,
I
think
Watson
and
I
should
go
in
without
you.
Now,
Watson,
let's
see
if
we
can
force
our
way
in."
The
old
door
gave
way
easily
under
our
combined
strength.
We
rushed
into
the
room.
It
was
empty.
There
was
no
furniture
except
a
small
bed,
a
table,
and
a
basket
of
linen.
The
skylight
above
was
open,
and
the
prisoner
was
gone.
"There's
been
some
foul
play
here,"
Holmes
said.
"This
man
guessed
Miss
Hunter's
intentions
and
took
his
victim
away."
"But
how?"
"Through
the
skylight.
We'll
soon
see
how
he
did
it."
He
climbed
onto
the
roof.
"Ah,
yes,"
he
called,
"here's
a
long
ladder
against
the
eaves.
That's
how
he
did
it."
"But
it
can't
be,"
said
Miss
Hunter.
"The
ladder
wasn't
there
when
the
Rucastles
left."
