Las aventuras de Sherlock Holmes
The Red-Headed League
Capítulo 2, Página 21
“Great.
And,
Doctor,
there
might
be
some
danger,
so
please
bring
your
army
revolver.”
He
waved,
turned
away,
and
quickly
vanished
into
the
crowd.
I
hope
I’m
not
slower
than
others,
but
I
often
felt
clueless
dealing
with
Sherlock
Holmes.
I
heard
and
saw
the
same
things
he
did,
yet
he
understood
not
only
what
had
happened
but
what
would
happen
next.
Meanwhile,
I
was
left
confused.
On
my
way
home
to
Kensington,
I
thought
about
everything:
the
strange
story
of
the
red-haired
man
copying
the
Encyclopedia,
our
visit
to
Saxe-Coburg
Square,
and
Holmes’s
ominous
words.
What
was
this
night
mission,
and
why
did
I
need
a
weapon?
Where
were
we
going,
and
what
was
our
plan?
Holmes
hinted
that
the
pawnbroker’s
assistant
was
a
dangerous
man,
possibly
playing
a
deep
game.
I
tried
to
figure
it
out
but
gave
up,
waiting
for
the
night
to
reveal
more.
It
was
a
quarter
past
nine
when
I
left
home,
crossing
the
Park
and
Oxford
Street
to
Baker
Street.
Two
hansom
cabs
stood
at
the
door,
and
I
heard
voices
upstairs.
Entering
Holmes’s
room,
I
found
him
talking
with
two
men.
I
recognized
Peter
Jones,
the
police
officer,
and
the
other
was
a
tall,
thin
man
with
a
shiny
hat
and
a
very
respectable
coat.
“Ah!
Our
group
is
complete,”
said
Holmes,
fastening
his
coat
and
grabbing
his
heavy
walking
stick.
“Watson,
you
know
Mr.
Jones
of
Scotland
Yard.
Let
me
introduce
Mr.
Merryweather,
who
will
join
us
in
tonight’s
adventure.”
“We’re
teaming
up
again,
Doctor,”
said
Jones
confidently.
“Our
friend
here
is
excellent
at
starting
a
chase.
He
just
needs
an
old
dog
to
help
catch
the
prey.”
“I
hope
we’re
not
chasing
a
wild
goose,”
Mr.
Merryweather
said
gloomily.
“You
can
trust
Mr.
Holmes,
sir,”
said
the
police
agent
proudly.
“His
methods
might
be
a
bit
theoretical
and
imaginative,
but
he
could
be
a
great
detective.
More
than
once,
like
in
the
Sholto
murder
and
Agra
treasure
cases,
he’s
been
closer
to
the
truth
than
the
official
force.”
“If
you
say
so,
Mr.
Jones,
I
trust
you,”
said
the
stranger
respectfully.
“But
I
do
miss
my
card
game.
It’s
the
first
Saturday
in
twenty-seven
years
I’ve
missed
it.”
