Las aventuras de Sherlock Holmes
A Case of Identity
Capítulo 3, Página 13
"My
dear
fellow,
is
it
possible
you
don’t
see
how
much
it
relates
to
the
case?"
"I
can’t
say
I
do,
unless
it’s
so
he
could
deny
his
signature
if
there
was
a
breach
of
promise
case."
"No,
that’s
not
the
point.
However,
I’ll
write
two
letters
to
settle
the
matter.
One
is
to
a
firm
in
the
City,
the
other
to
the
young
lady’s
stepfather,
Mr.
Windibank,
asking
him
to
meet
us
here
at
six
o’clock
tomorrow
evening.
It’s
best
to
deal
with
the
male
relatives.
And
now,
Doctor,
we
can’t
do
anything
until
the
answers
to
those
letters
arrive,
so
we
may
set
our
little
problem
aside
for
now."
I
had
many
reasons
to
trust
my
friend’s
subtle
reasoning
and
extraordinary
energy
in
action,
so
I
felt
he
must
have
solid
grounds
for
his
assured
demeanor
about
the
strange
mystery
he
was
asked
to
solve.
Only
once
had
I
seen
him
fail,
in
the
case
of
the
King
of
Bohemia
and
the
Irene
Adler
photograph.
But
when
I
remembered
the
bizarre
business
of
the
Sign
of
Four
and
the
unusual
circumstances
of
the
Study
in
Scarlet,
I
thought
it
would
be
a
strange
puzzle
indeed
that
he
couldn’t
unravel.
I
left
him
then,
still
puffing
at
his
black
clay
pipe,
convinced
that
when
I
returned
the
next
evening,
I
would
find
he
had
all
the
clues
to
uncover
the
identity
of
Miss
Mary
Sutherland's
disappearing
fiancé.
A
serious
professional
case
was
occupying
my
attention
at
that
time,
and
I
spent
the
whole
next
day
at
the
bedside
of
the
patient.
It
was
nearly
six
o’clock
when
I
finally
found
myself
free
and
was
able
to
jump
into
a
hansom
and
head
to
Baker
Street,
half
afraid
I
might
be
too
late
for
the
conclusion
of
the
mystery.
I
found
Sherlock
Holmes
alone,
however,
half
asleep,
with
his
long,
thin
form
curled
up
in
the
depths
of
his
armchair.
A
formidable
array
of
bottles
and
test
tubes,
with
the
sharp
clean
smell
of
hydrochloric
acid,
told
me
he
had
spent
his
day
doing
chemical
work,
which
he
loved.
"Well,
have
you
solved
it?"
I
asked
as
I
entered.
"Yes.
It
was
the
bisulphate
of
baryta."
