Las aventuras de Sherlock Holmes
A Case of Identity
Capítulo 3, Página 14
"No,
no,
the
mystery!"
I
exclaimed.
"Oh,
that!
I
was
thinking
of
the
salt
I’ve
been
working
on.
There
was
never
any
mystery
in
the
matter,
though,
as
I
said
yesterday,
some
details
are
interesting.
The
only
problem
is
that
there’s
no
law,
I
fear,
that
can
touch
the
scoundrel."
"Who
was
he,
then,
and
what
was
his
purpose
in
abandoning
Miss
Sutherland?"
The
question
was
barely
out
of
my
mouth,
and
Holmes
hadn’t
yet
replied
when
we
heard
heavy
footsteps
in
the
hallway
and
a
knock
at
the
door.
"This
is
the
girl’s
stepfather,
Mr.
James
Windibank,"
said
Holmes.
"He
wrote
to
say
he’d
be
here
at
six.
Come
in!"
The
man
who
entered
was
a
sturdy,
middle-sized
fellow,
about
thirty
years
old,
clean-shaven,
with
sallow
skin,
a
bland,
insinuating
manner,
and
a
pair
of
remarkably
sharp
and
penetrating
grey
eyes.
He
glanced
at
each
of
us,
placed
his
shiny
top
hat
on
the
sideboard,
and
with
a
slight
bow,
slid
into
the
nearest
chair.
"Good
evening,
Mr.
James
Windibank,"
said
Holmes.
"I
believe
this
typewritten
letter
is
from
you,
arranging
to
meet
me
at
six
o’clock?"
"Yes,
sir.
I’m
afraid
I’m
a
bit
late,
but
I’m
not
entirely
my
own
master,
you
know.
I’m
sorry
Miss
Sutherland
troubled
you
with
this
matter,
for
I
think
it’s
better
not
to
air
such
things
publicly.
She
came
against
my
wishes,
but
she
is
excitable
and
impulsive,
as
you
may
have
noticed,
and
not
easily
controlled
once
she’s
made
up
her
mind.
Of
course,
I
didn’t
mind
you
so
much,
as
you’re
not
with
the
official
police,
but
it’s
unpleasant
to
have
a
family
issue
like
this
spread
around.
Besides,
it’s
a
pointless
expense,
as
how
could
you
possibly
find
this
Hosmer
Angel?"
