Las aventuras de Sherlock Holmes
The Boscombe Valley Mystery
Capítulo 4, Página 25
The
old
man
buried
his
face
in
his
hands.
"God
help
me!"
he
cried.
"But
I
wouldn't
have
let
the
young
man
suffer.
I
swear
I
would
have
spoken
up
if
it
went
against
him
at
the
Assizes."
"I'm
glad
to
hear
that,"
said
Holmes
seriously.
"I
would
have
spoken
now
if
it
weren't
for
my
dear
girl.
It
would
break
her
heart—it
will
break
her
heart
when
she
hears
I'm
arrested."
"It
might
not
come
to
that,"
said
Holmes.
"What?"
"I'm
not
an
official
agent.
I
understand
it
was
your
daughter
who
needed
my
help,
and
I'm
acting
in
her
interest.
But
young
McCarthy
must
be
cleared."
"I'm
a
dying
man,"
said
old
Turner.
"I've
had
diabetes
for
years.
My
doctor
says
it's
a
question
of
whether
I'll
live
a
month.
Yet
I'd
rather
die
at
home
than
in
a
jail."
Holmes
got
up
and
sat
at
the
table
with
a
pen
in
his
hand
and
a
stack
of
paper
before
him.
"Just
tell
us
the
truth,"
he
said.
"I'll
write
down
the
facts.
You'll
sign
it,
and
Watson
here
can
witness
it.
Then
I
can
use
your
confession
as
a
last
resort
to
save
young
McCarthy.
I
promise
not
to
use
it
unless
it's
absolutely
necessary."
