Las aventuras de Sherlock Holmes
The Boscombe Valley Mystery
Capítulo 4, Página 4
“How
on
earth—”
“My
dear
friend,
I
know
you
well.
I
know
the
military
orderliness
that
defines
you.
You
shave
every
morning,
and
during
this
season,
you
do
so
by
sunlight;
but
since
your
shaving
is
less
perfect
on
the
left
side,
becoming
quite
untidy
around
your
jaw,
it’s
clear
that
side
gets
less
light.
I
couldn’t
imagine
a
man
like
you
being
satisfied
with
such
a
result
in
equal
light.
I
mention
this
as
a
simple
example
of
observation
and
deduction.
That's
my
skill,
and
it
might
help
in
the
investigation
ahead.
There
are
a
few
minor
points
from
the
inquest
worth
considering.”
“What
are
they?”
“It
seems
that
his
arrest
didn’t
happen
immediately
but
after
returning
to
Hatherley
Farm.
When
the
inspector
told
him
he
was
under
arrest,
he
said
he
wasn’t
surprised
and
that
it
was
no
more
than
he
deserved.
This
comment
naturally
removed
any
doubt
in
the
jury’s
minds.”
“It
was
a
confession,”
I
exclaimed.
“No,
because
he
then
protested
his
innocence.”
“Given
such
damning
events,
it
was
a
very
suspicious
remark.”
“On
the
contrary,”
said
Holmes,
“it’s
the
brightest
spot
I
see
in
this
gloomy
case.
Even
if
innocent,
he
couldn’t
be
so
foolish
as
not
to
see
the
evidence
against
him.
If
he
had
been
surprised
or
angry
at
his
arrest,
I’d
find
it
suspicious
since
such
reactions
wouldn’t
be
natural,
yet
might
seem
the
best
strategy
to
a
crafty
person.
His
honest
acceptance
of
the
situation
marks
him
as
either
innocent
or
as
someone
with
great
self-control.
His
comment
about
his
deserts
wasn’t
unnatural,
considering
he
stood
by
his
father’s
body,
and
it’s
certain
he
had
argued
with
him
that
day,
even
raising
his
hand
as
if
to
strike,
according
to
the
little
girl
whose
evidence
is
vital.
His
self-reproach
seems
to
show
a
healthy
mind,
not
a
guilty
one.”
