Las aventuras de Sherlock Holmes
The Man with the Twisted Lip
Capítulo 6, Página 5
It
was
hard
to
refuse
Sherlock
Holmes’
requests
since
they
were
always
so
clear
and
confidently
made.
I
felt
that
once
Whitney
was
in
the
cab,
my
task
was
practically
done.
I
couldn’t
wish
for
anything
better
than
to
join
my
friend
in
one
of
those
unique
adventures
that
were
normal
for
him.
In
a
few
minutes,
I
wrote
my
note,
paid
Whitney’s
bill,
led
him
to
the
cab,
and
watched
him
disappear
into
the
night.
Soon,
a
shabby
figure
emerged
from
the
opium
den,
and
I
was
walking
down
the
street
with
Sherlock
Holmes.
For
two
streets,
he
shuffled
along
with
a
bent
back
and
uncertain
steps.
Then,
looking
around
quickly,
he
straightened
up
and
burst
into
laughter.
"I
suppose,
Watson,"
he
said,
"you
think
I've
added
opium-smoking
to
cocaine
injections
and
all
those
other
little
habits
you’ve
lectured
me
about."
"I
was
certainly
surprised
to
find
you
there."
"But
no
more
surprised
than
I
was
to
find
you."
"I
came
to
find
a
friend."
"And
I
came
to
find
an
enemy."
"An
enemy?"
"Yes,
one
of
my
natural
enemies,
or
perhaps
my
natural
prey.
To
be
brief,
Watson,
I’m
in
the
middle
of
a
very
unusual
investigation,
and
I
hoped
to
find
a
clue
in
the
ramblings
of
these
drunkards,
as
I
have
before.
If
I’d
been
recognized
in
that
den,
my
life
wouldn’t
have
been
safe
for
an
hour;
I’ve
used
it
for
my
purposes
before,
and
the
rogue
Lascar
who
runs
it
has
vowed
revenge
on
me.
There’s
a
trapdoor
at
the
back
of
that
building,
near
Paul’s
Wharf,
which
could
tell
strange
tales
of
what’s
passed
through
it
on
moonless
nights."
