Las aventuras de Sherlock Holmes
The Adventure of the Speckled Band
Capítulo 8, Página 18
"Ah!
That’s
quite
suggestive.
Now,
on
the
other
side
of
this
narrow
wing
runs
the
corridor
from
which
these
three
rooms
open.
There
are
windows
in
it,
right?"
"Yes,
but
they
are
very
small.
Too
narrow
for
anyone
to
pass
through."
"Since
you
both
locked
your
doors
at
night,
your
rooms
were
inaccessible
from
that
side.
Now,
would
you
kindly
go
into
your
room
and
bar
your
shutters?"
Miss
Stoner
did
so,
and
Holmes,
after
carefully
examining
through
the
open
window,
tried
in
every
way
to
force
the
shutter
open,
but
without
success.
There
was
no
gap
through
which
a
knife
could
be
passed
to
lift
the
bar.
Then,
with
his
lens,
he
examined
the
hinges,
but
they
were
solid
iron,
firmly
built
into
the
massive
masonry.
"Hmm!"
he
said,
scratching
his
chin
in
some
confusion,
"my
theory
does
encounter
some
difficulties.
No
one
could
get
past
these
shutters
if
they
were
bolted.
Well,
let’s
see
if
the
inside
sheds
any
light
on
the
matter."
A
small
side
door
led
into
the
whitewashed
corridor
from
which
the
three
bedrooms
opened.
Holmes
refused
to
examine
the
third
room,
so
we
went
straight
to
the
second,
where
Miss
Stoner
was
now
sleeping
and
where
her
sister
had
met
her
fate.
It
was
a
simple
little
room,
with
a
low
ceiling
and
a
large
fireplace,
typical
of
old
country
houses.
A
brown
chest
of
drawers
stood
in
one
corner,
a
narrow
bed
with
a
white
cover
was
in
another,
and
a
dressing-table
was
on
the
left-hand
side
of
the
window.
These
items,
along
with
two
small
wicker
chairs,
made
up
all
the
furniture
in
the
room
except
for
a
square
of
Wilton
carpet
in
the
center.
The
boards
around
and
the
paneling
of
the
walls
were
of
brown,
worm-eaten
oak,
so
old
and
discolored
that
they
might
have
dated
from
the
original
construction
of
the
house.
Holmes
drew
one
of
the
chairs
into
a
corner
and
sat
silently,
his
eyes
traveling
around
and
up
and
down,
taking
in
every
detail
of
the
room.
"Where
does
that
bell
communicate
with?"
he
asked
finally,
pointing
to
a
thick
bell-rope
hanging
beside
the
bed,
its
tassel
lying
on
the
pillow.
"It
goes
to
the
housekeeper’s
room."
"It
looks
newer
than
the
other
things?"
