Las aventuras de Sherlock Holmes
The Adventure of the Speckled Band
Capítulo 8, Página 9
Holmes
shook
his
head
like
someone
far
from
satisfied.
"These
are
very
deep
waters,"
he
said.
"Please
continue
with
your
story."
"Two
years
have
passed
since
then,
and
my
life
has
been
lonelier
than
ever
until
recently.
A
month
ago,
a
dear
friend
I've
known
for
many
years
asked
me
to
marry
him.
His
name
is
Armitage—Percy
Armitage—the
second
son
of
Mr.
Armitage,
of
Crane
Water,
near
Reading.
My
stepfather
hasn't
opposed
the
match,
and
we
are
to
be
married
in
the
spring.
Two
days
ago,
some
repairs
began
in
the
west
wing
of
the
house,
and
my
bedroom
wall
was
pierced,
so
I
had
to
move
into
the
room
where
my
sister
died
and
sleep
in
her
bed.
Imagine
my
terror
last
night
when,
as
I
lay
awake
thinking
about
her
terrible
fate,
I
suddenly
heard
the
low
whistle
that
had
signaled
her
death.
I
jumped
up
and
lit
the
lamp,
but
there
was
nothing
to
see
in
the
room.
I
was
too
shaken
to
go
back
to
bed,
so
I
dressed,
and
as
soon
as
it
was
daylight,
I
went
down,
got
a
dog-cart
at
the
Crown
Inn
across
the
street,
and
drove
to
Leatherhead,
from
where
I
came
this
morning
to
see
you
and
ask
for
your
advice."
"You
have
done
wisely,"
said
my
friend.
"But
have
you
told
me
everything?"
"Yes,
everything."
"Miss
Roylott,
you
haven't.
You
are
protecting
your
stepfather."
"Why,
what
do
you
mean?"
In
response,
Holmes
pushed
back
the
black
lace
frill
that
edged
the
hand
resting
on
our
visitor's
knee.
Five
little
bruises,
the
marks
of
four
fingers
and
a
thumb,
were
visible
on
her
white
wrist.
