Las aventuras de Tom Sawyer
Capítulo 11, Página 5
"Oh!
It's
that
terrible
murder.
I
dream
about
it
almost
every
night
myself.
Sometimes
I
dream
I
did
it."
Mary
said
she
felt
the
same
way.
Sid
seemed
satisfied.
Tom
left
quickly
and
complained
of
toothache
for
a
week.
He
wrapped
his
jaw
every
night.
He
didn't
know
Sid
watched
him
and
often
loosened
the
bandage
to
listen,
then
put
it
back.
Tom's
worry
slowly
faded,
and
he
stopped
pretending
about
the
toothache.
If
Sid
learned
anything
from
Tom's
sleep
talk,
he
kept
it
to
himself.
Tom
thought
his
friends
would
never
stop
talking
about
dead
cats,
which
reminded
him
of
his
trouble.
Sid
noticed
Tom
never
led
these
games,
though
he
usually
did.
Sid
also
saw
Tom
never
acted
as
a
witness,
which
was
strange.
Sid
realized
Tom
avoided
these
games
when
he
could.
Sid
wondered
but
said
nothing.
Finally,
even
these
games
stopped,
and
Tom's
conscience
felt
better.
During
this
sad
time,
Tom
often
went
to
the
small
jail
window.
He
secretly
gave
little
comforts
to
the
"murderer."
The
jail
was
a
small
brick
building
at
the
village
edge,
with
no
guards.
It
was
rarely
used.
These
small
gifts
helped
ease
Tom's
guilt.
The
villagers
wanted
to
punish
Injun
Joe
for
stealing
bodies.
They
thought
about
covering
him
with
tar
and
feathers
and
riding
him
on
a
rail.
But
Injun
Joe
was
very
scary,
so
no
one
wanted
to
start
it.
Because
of
this,
they
forgot
the
idea.
Injun
Joe
was
smart.
He
talked
about
the
fight
first
and
did
not
mention
the
grave-robbing
before
it.
So,
they
decided
not
to
take
him
to
court
yet.
