Las aventuras de Tom Sawyer
Capítulo 12, Página 1
One
reason
Tom
forgot
his
secret
troubles
was
because
he
had
something
new
to
think
about.
Becky
Thatcher
stopped
coming
to
school.
Tom
tried
to
forget
her
for
a
few
days,
but
he
could
not.
He
started
to
walk
near
her
house
at
night
and
felt
very
sad.
She
was
sick.
What
if
she
died?
This
thought
was
too
much
for
him.
He
did
not
care
about
playing
war
or
being
a
pirate
anymore.
Life
was
no
fun
now;
it
was
just
sad.
He
put
away
his
toys.
His
aunt
worried
about
him.
She
tried
many
medicines
on
him.
She
liked
new
health
ideas
and
medicines.
She
always
wanted
to
try
them,
but
not
on
herself,
because
she
was
never
sick.
She
read
health
magazines
and
believed
everything
they
said.
She
never
noticed
they
changed
their
advice
every
month.
She
was
honest
and
kind,
so
she
believed
them.
She
gathered
her
medicines
and
went
around
thinking
she
was
helping
people,
but
she
did
not
know
she
was
not
really
helping
at
all.
Water
treatment
was
new,
and
Tom's
sadness
was
a
chance
for
her
to
try
it.
She
took
him
out
every
morning
and
poured
cold
water
on
him.
Then
she
scrubbed
him
with
a
towel
and
wrapped
him
in
a
wet
sheet.
She
put
him
under
blankets
until
he
sweated
a
lot.
Tom
said
it
was
like
his
troubles
came
out
of
his
skin.
But
Tom
still
felt
sad
and
looked
pale.
She
added
hot
baths,
sitz
baths,
and
showers.
He
stayed
sad
like
a
funeral.
She
gave
him
oatmeal
and
put
plasters
on
him.
She
treated
him
like
a
jug
and
filled
him
with
cure-alls.
Tom
got
used
to
this
treatment.
His
aunt
was
worried
by
his
calmness.
She
wanted
to
change
that.
She
heard
about
Pain-killer
and
ordered
a
lot.
She
tried
it
and
liked
it.
It
was
like
fire
in
a
bottle.
She
stopped
the
water
treatment
and
gave
Tom
a
teaspoon
of
Pain-killer.
She
watched
him
closely.
Her
worries
were
gone
when
Tom
reacted
strongly.
He
showed
a
big
interest,
like
he
was
on
fire.
Tom
felt
it
was
time
to
change
things.
This
life
was
too
much.
He
thought
of
a
plan
and
pretended
to
like
Pain-killer.
He
asked
for
it
so
much
that
his
aunt
told
him
to
take
it
himself.
If
it
was
Sid,
she
would
not
worry,
but
she
watched
Tom
carefully.
She
noticed
the
medicine
was
going
down,
but
she
did
not
know
he
was
pouring
it
into
a
crack
in
the
floor.
One
day,
Tom
was
pouring
medicine
into
the
crack
when
his
aunt’s
yellow
cat
came
by.
The
cat
looked
at
the
spoon
and
wanted
a
taste.
Tom
said:
“Don’t
ask
for
it
if
you
don’t
want
it,
Peter.”
But
Peter
showed
he
did
want
it.
