Las aventuras de Tom Sawyer
Capítulo 16, Página 1
After
dinner,
the
gang
went
out
to
find
turtle
eggs
on
the
sand.
They
used
sticks
to
poke
the
sand,
and
when
they
found
a
soft
spot,
they
dug
with
their
hands.
Sometimes
they
found
fifty
or
sixty
eggs
in
one
place.
The
eggs
were
round
and
white,
a
bit
smaller
than
walnuts.
They
had
a
big
fried-egg
feast
that
night
and
another
one
on
Friday
morning.
After
breakfast,
they
ran
out
to
the
sand,
shouting
and
playing.
They
chased
each
other,
taking
off
their
clothes
as
they
went,
until
they
were
naked.
Then
they
played
in
the
shallow
water,
against
the
strong
current,
which
sometimes
made
them
fall
and
laugh
more.
They
splashed
water
in
each
other's
faces
and
tried
to
duck
each
other
under
the
water.
They
came
up
laughing
and
gasping
for
air.
When
they
got
tired,
they
lay
on
the
hot
sand.
They
covered
themselves
with
sand,
then
ran
back
to
the
water
to
play
again.
They
thought
their
skin
looked
like
circus
tights,
so
they
drew
a
circle
in
the
sand
and
had
a
circus.
All
three
wanted
to
be
clowns,
and
none
wanted
to
give
up
the
best
spot.
Next,
they
played
marbles
until
they
got
bored.
Joe
and
Huck
went
for
another
swim,
but
Tom
did
not.
He
had
lost
his
string
of
rattlesnake
rattles
and
was
worried
about
getting
cramps
without
it.
He
looked
for
it,
and
by
the
time
he
found
it,
the
others
were
tired.
They
wandered
apart
and
looked
across
the
river
at
the
village.
Tom
wrote
"BECKY"
in
the
sand
with
his
toe,
then
erased
it,
feeling
angry
with
himself.
But
he
wrote
it
again,
then
erased
it
once
more.
He
joined
the
others
to
avoid
thinking
about
it.
Joe
felt
very
homesick
and
almost
cried.
Huck
was
sad
too.
Tom
felt
down
but
tried
not
to
show
it.
He
had
a
secret
he
did
not
want
to
tell
yet,
but
he
might
have
to
if
they
stayed
sad.
He
said
cheerfully:
"I
bet
pirates
have
been
here
before.
Let's
explore
again.
Maybe
they
hid
treasure
here.
How
would
you
feel
if
we
found
gold
and
silver?"
But
the
others
did
not
get
excited.
Tom
tried
other
ideas,
but
they
failed
too.
Joe
poked
the
sand
with
a
stick
and
looked
gloomy.
Finally,
he
said:
"Oh,
boys,
let's
give
up.
I
want
to
go
home.
It's
too
lonely."
