Las aventuras de Tom Sawyer
Capítulo 2, Página 2
Jim
started
to
think.
"A
white
marble,
Jim!
It's
a
good
one."
"Wow!
That's
a
nice
marble!
But
Tom,
I'm
afraid
of
missis—"
"And
if
you
do,
I'll
show
you
my
sore
toe."
Jim
was
tempted—he
couldn't
resist.
He
put
down
his
pail,
took
the
marble,
and
looked
at
the
toe
while
Tom
took
off
the
bandage.
Soon,
Jim
ran
down
the
street
with
his
pail,
and
Tom
painted
quickly.
Aunt
Polly
watched
with
a
slipper
in
her
hand,
feeling
proud.
But
Tom's
energy
didn't
last.
He
thought
about
the
fun
he
planned
for
the
day,
and
he
felt
sad
again.
Soon,
free
boys
would
come
along,
having
fun,
and
they
would
laugh
at
him
for
working.
The
thought
hurt
him.
He
looked
at
his
toys,
marbles,
and
little
treasures.
He
had
enough
to
trade
for
work,
but
not
enough
for
freedom.
Then,
he
had
a
big
idea!
He
picked
up
his
brush
and
worked
calmly.
Ben
Rogers
came
along—the
boy
Tom
feared
would
make
fun
of
him.
Ben
was
happy,
hopping
and
skipping,
eating
an
apple,
and
pretending
to
be
a
steamboat.
As
Ben
got
closer,
he
slowed
down
and
pretended
to
steer
a
big
boat.
"Stop
her,
sir!
Ting-a-ling-ling!"
Ben
said,
moving
slowly
toward
the
sidewalk.
