Las aventuras de Tom Sawyer
Capítulo 21, Página 2
“In
everyday
life,
how
happy
does
the
young
mind
feel
when
thinking
about
a
party!
Imagination
draws
joyful
pictures.
In
her
mind,
the
fashion
lover
sees
herself
at
the
party,
watched
by
everyone.
Her
lovely
dress
is
white,
and
she
dances
happily.
Her
eyes
are
bright,
and
her
steps
are
light
in
the
happy
crowd.
“In
these
sweet
dreams,
time
goes
by
quickly,
and
soon
she
enters
the
magical
world
she
dreamed
of.
Everything
looks
so
beautiful
to
her
eyes!
Each
new
scene
is
prettier
than
the
last.
But
soon
she
sees
that
under
the
nice
outside,
everything
is
empty.
The
praise
that
once
made
her
happy
now
sounds
harsh.
The
ballroom
is
no
longer
fun.
With
poor
health
and
a
sad
heart,
she
realizes
that
earthly
pleasures
do
not
fill
the
soul’s
desires!”
And
so
on.
People
whispered
compliments
like
“How
sweet!”
and
“So
true!”
during
the
reading.
After
it
ended
with
a
sad
sermon,
the
applause
was
loud.
Then
a
slim,
sad
girl
with
a
pale
face
stood
up
and
read
a
“poem.”
Here
are
two
stanzas:
“A
MISSOURI
MAIDEN’S
FAREWELL
TO
ALABAMA
"Alabama,
goodbye!
I
love
you
very
much!
But
I
must
leave
you
for
a
while.
I
feel
sad
when
I
think
of
you.
I
remember
walking
in
your
pretty
woods.
I
read
near
Tallapoosa's
stream.
I
listened
to
Tallassee's
noisy
waters.
I
watched
the
sunrise
by
Coosa's
side.
"I
do
not
feel
ashamed
to
have
a
full
heart.
I
do
not
blush
to
cry
when
I
leave.
I
am
not
leaving
a
strange
place.
I
am
not
saying
goodbye
to
strangers.
This
state
was
my
home.
I
felt
welcome
here.
I
leave
your
valleys
and
your
tall
buildings.
My
eyes
and
heart
will
be
cold
if
they
forget
you,
dear
Alabama."
Few
people
knew
what
"tête"
meant,
but
they
liked
the
poem
anyway.
