Las aventuras de Tom Sawyer
Capítulo 26, Página 5
Two
men
entered.
Each
boy
thought:
"There's
the
old
deaf
and
dumb
Spaniard
that's
been
around
town
a
few
times—never
saw
the
other
man
before."
“The
"other"
was
a
ragged,
messy
man
with
nothing
nice
about
him.
The
Spaniard
wore
a
serape,
had
bushy
white
whiskers,
long
white
hair
under
his
sombrero,
and
green
goggles.
They
came
in,
and
the
"other"
spoke
in
a
low
voice;
they
sat
down
facing
the
door,
backs
to
the
wall,
and
the
speaker
kept
talking.
He
spoke
more
clearly
as
he
went
on:
"No,"
he
said,
"I've
thought
about
it,
and
I
don't
like
it.
It's
dangerous."
"Dangerous!"
grunted
the
"deaf
and
dumb"
Spaniard—to
the
boys'
big
surprise.
"Coward!"
This
voice
made
the
boys
gasp
and
shake.
It
was
Injun
Joe's!
There
was
silence
for
a
while.
Then
Joe
said:
"What's
more
dangerous
than
that
job
up
there—but
nothing
happened."
"That's
different.
Way
up
the
river,
no
other
house
around.
No
one
will
know
we
tried,
as
long
as
we
didn't
succeed."
"Well,
what's
more
dangerous
than
coming
here
in
the
daytime!
Anyone
would
suspect
us
if
they
saw
us."
