Las aventuras de Tom Sawyer
Capítulo 31, Página 8
Becky
slowly
realized
she
was
crying
in
Tom's
arms.
They
didn't
know
how
long
it
had
been.
After
what
felt
like
a
long
time,
they
woke
up
from
sleep
and
felt
bad
again.
Tom
thought
it
might
be
Sunday
or
maybe
Monday.
He
tried
to
talk
to
Becky,
but
she
was
too
sad.
Tom
said
they
must
have
been
missed,
and
people
were
searching.
He
would
shout,
and
maybe
someone
would
hear.
He
tried,
but
the
echoes
sounded
scary,
so
he
stopped.
Time
passed,
and
they
felt
hungry
again.
They
ate
some
of
Tom's
half
of
the
cake.
But
they
felt
even
hungrier.
The
little
food
made
them
want
more.
After
a
while,
Tom
said:
"Shh!
Did
you
hear
that?"
They
held
their
breath
and
listened.
They
heard
a
faint
shout
far
away.
Tom
answered
it,
and
they
started
moving
down
the
corridor.
They
listened
again
and
heard
the
sound,
a
bit
closer.
"It's
them!"
said
Tom.
"They're
coming!
Let's
go,
Becky—we're
safe
now!"
They
felt
very
happy.
But
they
moved
slowly
because
there
were
holes
in
the
ground.
Soon
they
found
one
and
had
to
stop.
It
might
be
three
feet
deep
or
a
hundred.
They
couldn't
cross
it.
Tom
lay
down
and
reached
down
as
far
as
he
could.
No
bottom.
They
had
to
wait
for
the
searchers.
The
shouts
seemed
to
get
farther
away
and
then
stopped.
It
was
a
terrible
feeling.
Tom
shouted
until
he
was
hoarse,
but
it
didn't
help.
He
talked
to
Becky
with
hope,
but
a
long
time
passed,
and
no
sounds
came
back.
They
went
back
to
the
spring.
Time
went
slowly;
they
slept
again
and
woke
up
hungry
and
sad.
Tom
thought
it
must
be
Tuesday
now.
