Las aventuras de Tom Sawyer
Capítulo 31, Página 9
Then
Tom
had
an
idea.
There
were
side
passages
nearby.
It
was
better
to
explore
than
just
wait.
He
took
a
kite-line
from
his
pocket,
tied
it
to
a
rock,
and
they
started
moving.
Tom
led,
unwinding
the
line.
After
twenty
steps,
the
corridor
ended.
Tom
got
on
his
knees
and
felt
below
and
around
the
corner.
He
stretched
a
bit
more,
and
then,
not
far
away,
a
hand
with
a
candle
appeared
from
behind
a
rock!
Tom
shouted
with
joy,
and
then
the
body
came
into
view—Injun
Joe!
Tom
was
frozen
with
fear.
But
then
he
was
happy
to
see
Joe
run
away.
Tom
was
surprised
Joe
didn't
recognize
his
voice.
Maybe
the
echoes
changed
it.
Tom's
fear
made
him
weak.
He
decided
to
stay
by
the
spring
and
not
risk
meeting
Injun
Joe
again.
He
didn't
tell
Becky
what
he
saw.
He
only
said
he
shouted
"for
luck."
Hunger
and
sadness
became
stronger
than
their
fears.
They
waited
at
the
spring
and
slept
again.
When
the
children
woke
up,
they
were
very
hungry.
Tom
thought
it
might
be
Wednesday
or
even
Saturday
now.
He
believed
the
search
had
stopped.
He
wanted
to
explore
another
passage.
Tom
was
ready
to
face
Injun
Joe
and
any
other
danger.
But
Becky
was
very
weak.
She
felt
sad
and
did
not
want
to
move.
She
said
she
would
stay
there
and
die;
it
would
not
take
long.
She
told
Tom
to
take
the
kite-line
and
explore
if
he
wanted.
But
she
begged
him
to
come
back
often
and
talk
to
her.
She
made
him
promise
to
stay
with
her
and
hold
her
hand
when
the
end
came.
Tom
kissed
her,
feeling
a
lump
in
his
throat.
He
tried
to
act
confident
about
finding
the
searchers
or
a
way
out.
Then
he
took
the
kite-line
in
his
hand
and
crawled
down
one
of
the
passages.
He
was
very
hungry
and
worried
about
what
would
happen.
