Las aventuras de Tom Sawyer
Capítulo 32, Página 1
Tuesday
afternoon
came,
and
it
turned
to
evening.
The
village
of
St.
Petersburg
was
still
sad.
The
lost
children
were
not
found.
People
prayed
for
them,
both
in
public
and
in
private.
But
no
good
news
came
from
the
cave.
Most
searchers
stopped
looking
and
went
back
to
work.
They
said
the
children
would
never
be
found.
Mrs.
Thatcher
was
very
sick,
often
not
knowing
where
she
was.
People
said
it
was
sad
to
hear
her
call
her
child.
She
would
listen
for
a
minute,
then
lay
down
with
a
moan.
Aunt
Polly
was
very
sad
too,
and
her
hair
was
almost
white.
The
village
went
to
bed
that
night,
feeling
lonely
and
sad.
In
the
middle
of
the
night,
the
village
bells
rang
loudly.
People
ran
into
the
streets,
shouting,
“Turn
out!
They’re
found!
They’re
found!”
Tin
pans
and
horns
added
to
the
noise.
Everyone
moved
toward
the
river.
They
met
the
children
in
an
open
carriage,
pulled
by
happy
citizens.
The
crowd
joined
them
and
marched
up
the
main
street,
shouting
with
joy.
The
village
was
lit
up;
nobody
went
to
bed
again.
It
was
the
best
night
the
little
town
ever
had.
For
the
first
half-hour,
villagers
went
to
Judge
Thatcher’s
house.
They
hugged
the
children
and
kissed
them.
They
held
Mrs.
Thatcher’s
hand
and
tried
to
speak
but
couldn’t.
They
left
with
tears
falling
everywhere.
Aunt
Polly
was
very
happy,
and
Mrs.
Thatcher
was
almost
as
happy.
She
would
be
completely
happy
when
her
husband
got
the
news.
Tom
lay
on
a
sofa,
telling
everyone
about
their
adventure.
He
added
many
exciting
details.
He
told
how
he
left
Becky
to
explore.
He
followed
two
paths
as
far
as
his
kite-line
went.
Then
he
tried
a
third
path
and
saw
a
light
far
away.
He
left
the
line
and
went
toward
it,
pushed
through
a
small
hole,
and
saw
the
Mississippi
River!
If
it
had
been
night,
he
would
not
have
seen
the
light.
He
would
not
have
explored
that
passage
more.
He
went
back
for
Becky
and
told
her
the
good
news.
She
told
him
not
to
bother
her
because
she
was
tired
and
thought
she
would
die.
He
convinced
her
to
come.
She
almost
died
from
joy
when
she
saw
the
light.
He
pushed
out
of
the
hole
and
helped
her
out.
They
sat
and
cried
with
happiness.
Some
men
came
in
a
boat,
and
Tom
called
them.
He
told
them
about
their
situation.
At
first,
the
men
didn’t
believe
them.
They
said,
“You
are
five
miles
down
the
river.”
But
they
took
them
on
board,
rowed
to
a
house,
gave
them
supper,
let
them
rest,
and
then
brought
them
home.
Before
dawn,
Judge
Thatcher
and
some
searchers
were
found
in
the
cave.
They
were
told
the
great
news.
Three
days
and
nights
in
the
cave
left
Tom
and
Becky
very
tired.
They
stayed
in
bed
all
Wednesday
and
Thursday,
feeling
more
tired.
Tom
got
up
a
little
on
Thursday,
went
downtown
on
Friday,
and
felt
almost
normal
by
Saturday.
But
Becky
stayed
in
her
room
until
Sunday.
She
looked
like
she
had
been
very
sick.
Tom
heard
Huck
was
sick
and
went
to
see
him
on
Friday.
But
he
couldn’t
enter
the
room,
not
on
Saturday
or
Sunday.
After
that,
he
could
visit
every
day
but
had
to
stay
quiet.
The
Widow
Douglas
made
sure
he
did.
At
home,
Tom
learned
about
the
Cardiff
Hill
event.
He
also
heard
the
“ragged
man’s”
body
was
found
in
the
river.
He
had
drowned
trying
to
escape,
maybe.
