Las aventuras de Tom Sawyer
Capítulo 9, Página 7
“Yes,
and
you
did
more
than
that,”
said
Injun
Joe,
moving
closer.
“Five
years
ago,
you
chased
me
from
your
father’s
kitchen
when
I
asked
for
food.
You
said
I
was
no
good.
I
swore
I’d
get
even,
and
your
father
put
me
in
jail.
Did
you
think
I’d
forget?
I
have
Injun
blood.
Now
I’ve
got
you,
and
you
have
to
pay!”
He
threatened
the
doctor
with
his
fist.
The
doctor
suddenly
hit
him,
and
he
fell
to
the
ground.
Potter
dropped
his
knife
and
exclaimed:
"Hey,
don't
hit
my
friend!"
In
the
next
moment,
he
grabbed
the
doctor.
They
struggled
hard,
trampling
the
grass.
Injun
Joe
jumped
up,
his
eyes
full
of
anger.
He
picked
up
Potter's
knife
and
moved
around
like
a
cat.
He
waited
for
a
chance.
Suddenly,
the
doctor
broke
free.
He
grabbed
a
heavy
board
and
hit
Potter,
knocking
him
down.
At
that
moment,
Injun
Joe
saw
his
chance.
He
stabbed
the
young
man
with
the
knife.
The
young
man
fell
on
Potter,
and
blood
covered
him.
The
clouds
hid
the
scene,
and
two
scared
boys
ran
away
in
the
dark.
Soon,
the
moon
came
out
again.
Injun
Joe
stood
over
the
bodies,
looking
at
them.
The
doctor
made
a
small
noise,
took
a
deep
breath,
and
then
was
still.
The
half-breed
said:
"That's
done—damn
you."
Then
he
took
things
from
the
body.
He
put
the
knife
in
Potter's
open
hand
and
sat
on
the
broken
coffin.
Minutes
passed,
and
Potter
started
to
move
and
moan.
He
held
the
knife,
looked
at
it,
and
dropped
it
with
a
shiver.
He
sat
up,
pushed
the
body
away,
and
looked
around.
His
eyes
met
Joe's.
"Lord,
what
happened,
Joe?"
he
said.
"It's
a
bad
thing,"
said
Joe,
not
moving.
"Why
did
you
do
it?"
