Las aventuras de Tom Sawyer
Capítulo 10, Página 9
"Hucky,
do
you
dare
to
go
if
I
lead?"
"I
don't
really
want
to,
Tom.
What
if
it's
Injun
Joe?"
Tom
felt
scared.
But
soon
the
temptation
grew
strong
again,
and
the
boys
decided
to
try,
agreeing
to
run
if
the
snoring
stopped.
They
tiptoed
quietly,
one
behind
the
other.
When
they
were
five
steps
from
the
snorer,
Tom
stepped
on
a
stick,
and
it
snapped
loudly.
The
man
moaned,
moved
a
little,
and
his
face
came
into
the
moonlight.
It
was
Muff
Potter.
The
boys'
hearts
stopped,
and
their
hopes
vanished
when
the
man
moved,
but
their
fears
disappeared
now.
They
tiptoed
out
through
the
broken
boards
and
stopped
a
little
away
to
exchange
a
parting
word.
That
long,
sad
howl
rose
on
the
night
air
again!
They
turned
and
saw
a
strange
dog
standing
a
few
feet
from
where
Potter
was
lying,
facing
him
with
its
nose
pointing
up.
"Oh,
geeminy,
it's
him!"
both
boys
exclaimed
at
once.
"Say,
Tom—they
say
a
stray
dog
howled
around
Johnny
Miller's
house
about
midnight
two
weeks
ago;
and
a
whippoorwill
came
and
sat
on
the
banisters
and
sang,
that
same
evening;
and
nobody's
dead
there
yet."
"Well,
I
know
that.
But
didn't
Gracie
Miller
fall
into
the
kitchen
fire
and
burn
herself
badly
the
next
Saturday?"
"Yes,
but
she's
not
dead.
And
she's
getting
better,
too."
"All
right,
you
wait
and
see.
She's
a
goner,
just
as
sure
as
Muff
Potter's
a
goner.
That's
what
people
say,
and
they
know
about
these
things,
Huck."
