Las aventuras de Tom Sawyer
Capítulo 18, Página 10
“Yes.”
“And
me?”
said
Sally
Rogers.
“Yes.”
“And
me,
too?”
said
Susy
Harper.
“And
Joe?”
“Yes.”
And
so
it
went,
with
everyone
clapping
happily
for
invitations
except
Tom
and
Amy.
Then
Tom
walked
away
with
Amy.
Becky’s
lips
trembled
and
tears
filled
her
eyes.
She
hid
her
feelings
with
fake
cheerfulness
and
kept
talking,
but
the
picnic
and
everything
else
felt
empty
now.
She
left
as
soon
as
she
could,
hid,
and
had
what
is
called
"a
good
cry."
Then
she
sat
with
wounded
pride
until
the
bell
rang.
She
got
up
with
a
determined
look
and
decided
she
knew
what
she’d
do.
During
recess,
Tom
kept
flirting
with
Amy,
feeling
pleased
with
himself.
He
wandered
around
to
find
Becky
and
make
her
jealous.
Finally,
he
saw
her
sitting
on
a
bench
behind
the
schoolhouse,
looking
at
a
picture
book
with
Alfred
Temple.
They
seemed
so
into
it,
with
their
heads
close
together,
that
they
didn’t
notice
anything
else.
Jealousy
burned
in
Tom.
He
regretted
not
making
up
with
Becky.
He
called
himself
a
fool
and
all
sorts
of
names.
He
wanted
to
cry
in
frustration.
Amy
chatted
happily,
but
Tom
wasn’t
listening.
Whenever
she
paused,
he
just
mumbled
a
response,
often
the
wrong
one.
He
kept
going
back
to
see
Becky
with
Alfred,
even
though
it
hurt
him.
It
seemed
like
Becky
didn’t
even
notice
he
existed,
but
she
did.
She
knew
she
was
winning
and
was
glad
to
see
him
suffer
like
she
did.
Amy’s
cheerful
talk
became
unbearable.
Tom
hinted
he
had
things
to
do
and
time
was
running
out.
But
she
kept
talking.
Tom
thought,
“Oh,
when
will
I
get
rid
of
her?”
Finally,
he
said
he
had
to
attend
to
those
things,
and
she
said
she’d
be
around
after
school.
He
hurried
away,
annoyed
with
her.
