Las aventuras de Tom Sawyer
Capítulo 2, Página 2
Jim
started
to
think
about
it.
“A
white
marble,
Jim!
And
it’s
a
great
one.”
“Wow!
That’s
a
really
nice
marble!
But
Tom,
I’m
really
afraid
of
Miss
Polly—”
“And
if
you
paint,
I’ll
show
you
my
sore
toe.”
Jim
couldn’t
resist.
He
put
down
his
pail,
took
the
marble,
and
looked
at
Tom’s
toe
with
great
interest
while
Tom
unwrapped
the
bandage.
In
a
moment,
Jim
was
running
down
the
street
with
his
pail,
and
Tom
was
painting
with
energy.
Aunt
Polly
left
with
a
slipper
in
her
hand,
looking
pleased.
But
Tom
soon
lost
his
energy.
He
thought
about
the
fun
he
had
planned
for
the
day,
and
his
sadness
grew.
Soon,
the
other
boys
would
come
by,
going
on
fun
adventures,
and
they
would
laugh
at
him
for
working.
The
thought
burned
him
like
fire.
He
checked
his
pocket
for
his
treasures—bits
of
toys,
marbles,
and
other
things.
He
had
enough
to
trade
for
work,
maybe,
but
not
enough
to
buy
even
half
an
hour
of
freedom.
He
put
his
things
back
in
his
pocket
and
gave
up
trying
to
buy
the
boys.
At
this
dark
moment,
he
had
a
brilliant
idea!
He
picked
up
his
brush
and
went
back
to
work
calmly.
Ben
Rogers
soon
appeared—the
boy
Tom
feared
would
tease
him
the
most.
Ben
was
hopping
and
skipping,
showing
he
was
happy
and
excited.
He
was
eating
an
apple
and
making
sounds
like
a
steamboat.
As
he
got
closer,
he
slowed
down,
took
the
middle
of
the
street,
leaned
to
one
side,
and
moved
with
great
style,
pretending
to
be
a
big
steamboat.
He
acted
as
both
the
boat
and
the
captain,
giving
orders
and
following
them:
“Stop
her,
sir!
Ting-a-ling-ling!”
The
boat
slowed
down,
and
he
moved
toward
the
sidewalk.
