Las aventuras de Tom Sawyer
Capítulo 2, Página 6
“Oh,
come
on,
I’ll
be
very
careful.
Now
let
me
try.
I’ll
give
you
the
core
of
my
apple.”
“Well,
here—No,
Ben,
now
don’t.
I’m
afraid—”
“I’ll
give
you
the
whole
apple!”
Tom
gave
up
the
brush
with
a
bit
of
reluctance
on
his
face,
but
he
was
happy
inside.
While
the
steamer
Big
Missouri
worked
hard
in
the
sun,
the
retired
artist
sat
on
a
barrel
in
the
shade
nearby.
He
dangled
his
legs,
ate
his
apple,
and
thought
about
how
to
trick
more
boys.
Many
boys
came
by;
they
came
to
laugh
at
him
but
stayed
to
paint
the
fence.
By
the
time
Ben
was
tired,
Tom
had
traded
the
next
turn
to
Billy
Fisher
for
a
kite
in
good
shape.
When
Billy
was
tired,
Johnny
Miller
bought
a
turn
with
a
dead
rat
and
a
string
to
swing
it
with—and
so
it
continued,
hour
after
hour.
By
the
middle
of
the
afternoon,
Tom,
who
had
been
poor
in
the
morning,
was
now
very
rich.
He
had
twelve
marbles,
part
of
a
jews-harp,
a
piece
of
blue
glass
to
look
through,
a
spool
cannon,
a
key
that
wouldn’t
open
anything,
a
piece
of
chalk,
a
glass
stopper
from
a
bottle,
a
tin
soldier,
two
tadpoles,
six
firecrackers,
a
one-eyed
kitten,
a
brass
doorknob,
a
dog
collar
without
a
dog,
a
knife
handle,
four
pieces
of
orange
peel,
and
an
old
window
sash.
He
had
enjoyed
a
nice,
lazy
time
with
lots
of
company,
and
the
fence
had
three
coats
of
whitewash!
If
he
hadn’t
run
out
of
whitewash,
he
might
have
taken
everything
from
every
boy
in
the
village.
Tom
thought
to
himself
that
the
world
wasn't
so
bad
after
all.
He
had
discovered
something
important
about
people,
without
realizing
it—that
to
make
someone
want
something,
you
just
need
to
make
it
hard
to
get.
If
he
were
a
wise
philosopher,
like
the
author
of
this
book,
he
would
understand
that
Work
is
what
you
have
to
do,
and
Play
is
what
you
choose
to
do.
This
would
help
him
see
why
making
fake
flowers
or
working
on
a
treadmill
is
work,
while
playing
games
or
climbing
mountains
is
fun.
There
are
rich
men
in
England
who
pay
a
lot
to
drive
passenger
coaches
for
miles
in
the
summer
because
it
costs
them
a
lot
of
money.
But
if
they
were
paid
to
do
it,
it
would
become
work,
and
they
would
quit.
The
boy
thought
for
a
while
about
how
much
his
situation
had
changed,
and
then
he
headed
home
to
share
the
news.
