Las aventuras de Tom Sawyer
Capítulo 31, Página 7
“Maybe
they’re
looking
for
us
right
now,
Tom.”
“Well,
I
hope
they
are.
I
really
do.”
“When
will
they
realize
we’re
missing,
Tom?”
“When
they
get
back
to
the
boat,
I
think.”
“Tom,
it
might
be
dark
then—would
they
notice
we
didn’t
come
back?”
“I’m
not
sure.
But
your
mother
would
miss
you
as
soon
as
they
got
home.”
A
scared
look
on
Becky’s
face
made
Tom
realize
he’d
made
a
mistake.
Becky
wasn’t
supposed
to
go
home
that
night!
They
became
silent
and
thoughtful.
Soon,
Becky’s
new
burst
of
tears
showed
Tom
she’d
realized
the
same
thing—that
Mrs.
Thatcher
might
not
notice
Becky
was
missing
until
Sunday
morning.
The
children
watched
their
bit
of
candle
melt
away
slowly
and
mercilessly.
They
saw
the
half-inch
of
wick
stand
alone
at
last,
saw
the
weak
flame
rise
and
fall,
climb
the
thin
smoke,
pause
at
the
top,
and
then—darkness
took
over
completely!
