Las aventuras de Tom Sawyer
Capítulo 7, Página 1
The
more
Tom
tried
to
focus
on
his
book,
the
more
his
thoughts
wandered.
Finally,
he
gave
up
with
a
sigh
and
a
yawn.
He
felt
like
the
noon
break
would
never
come.
The
air
was
still
and
lifeless.
It
was
the
sleepiest
of
days.
The
soft
murmur
of
the
twenty-five
students
studying
was
soothing,
like
the
sound
of
bees.
In
the
distance,
Cardiff
Hill
rose
with
its
green
sides
through
the
heat,
looking
purple
from
afar.
A
few
birds
flew
lazily
high
in
the
sky.
The
only
other
living
things
were
some
cows,
and
they
were
asleep.
Tom
wished
he
could
be
free
or
find
something
interesting
to
do.
He
reached
into
his
pocket
and
his
face
lit
up
with
a
thankful
smile,
though
he
didn't
realize
it.
He
quietly
took
out
a
percussion-cap
box.
He
let
the
tick
out
and
placed
it
on
the
desk.
The
tick
probably
felt
thankful
too,
but
it
was
too
soon.
When
it
started
to
move,
Tom
used
a
pin
to
change
its
direction.
Tom's
best
friend
sat
next
to
him,
feeling
just
as
bored
as
Tom
was.
But
now,
he
was
very
interested
in
the
game.
This
friend
was
Joe
Harper.
The
two
boys
were
best
friends
during
the
week
but
enemies
on
Saturdays.
Joe
took
a
pin
from
his
jacket
and
helped
with
the
tick.
The
game
got
more
exciting
every
moment.
Soon,
Tom
said
they
were
getting
in
each
other's
way
and
not
enjoying
the
game
fully.
So,
he
put
Joe's
slate
on
the
desk
and
drew
a
line
down
the
middle.
"Now,"
he
said,
"if
the
tick
is
on
your
side,
you
can
poke
it,
and
I'll
leave
it
alone.
But
if
it
crosses
to
my
side,
you
leave
it
alone,
and
I'll
handle
it."
"Okay,
go
ahead;
start
him
up."
The
tick
escaped
from
Tom
and
crossed
the
line.
Joe
played
with
it
for
a
while,
then
it
crossed
back.
This
happened
many
times.
One
boy
would
focus
on
the
tick,
while
the
other
watched,
both
completely
absorbed.
Finally,
luck
seemed
to
stay
with
Joe.
The
tick
tried
different
paths,
getting
as
excited
as
the
boys.
But
just
as
it
was
about
to
win,
Tom's
fingers
would
twitch
to
start,
Joe's
pin
would
block
it.
Tom
couldn't
take
it
anymore.
The
temptation
was
too
strong,
so
he
helped
with
his
pin.
Joe
got
angry
right
away
and
said:
"Tom,
leave
it
alone."
"I
just
want
to
move
it
a
bit,
Joe."
"No,
it's
not
fair;
leave
it
alone."
