Las aventuras de Tom Sawyer
Capítulo 11, Página 2
People
in
the
trees
above
Tom
said
he
wasn't
trying
to
escape—he
just
looked
confused
and
unsure.
"What
nerve!"
said
an
onlooker.
"He
wanted
to
come
and
take
a
quiet
look
at
his
work,
I
guess—didn't
expect
any
company."
The
crowd
parted,
and
the
Sheriff
came
through,
leading
Potter
by
the
arm.
The
poor
man's
face
was
drawn,
and
his
eyes
showed
his
fear.
When
he
stood
before
the
murdered
man,
he
trembled
violently
and
buried
his
face
in
his
hands,
bursting
into
tears.
"I
didn't
do
it,
friends,"
he
sobbed.
"On
my
word
and
honor,
I
never
did
it."
"Who's
accusing
you?"
shouted
a
voice.
This
question
seemed
to
hit
home.
Potter
lifted
his
face,
looking
around
with
hopeless
eyes.
He
saw
Injun
Joe
and
exclaimed:
"Oh,
Injun
Joe,
you
promised
me
you’d
never—"
"Is
that
your
knife?"
the
Sheriff
asked,
holding
it
up
in
front
of
him.
