Las aventuras de Tom Sawyer
Capítulo 14, Página 2
“I
wonder,”
Tom
said
softly.
“It
isn’t
thunder,”
said
Huckleberry
in
a
hushed
voice,
“because
thunder—”
“Listen!”
said
Tom.
“Don’t
talk.”
They
waited
for
what
felt
like
an
eternity,
and
then
the
same
muffled
boom
broke
the
quiet.
“Let’s
go
and
see.”
They
jumped
up
and
hurried
to
the
shore
facing
the
town.
They
pushed
aside
the
bushes
on
the
bank
and
looked
out
over
the
water.
The
little
steam
ferryboat
was
about
a
mile
below
the
village,
drifting
with
the
current.
Its
wide
deck
seemed
crowded
with
people.
Many
small
boats
were
rowing
or
floating
near
the
ferryboat,
but
the
boys
couldn’t
tell
what
the
men
in
them
were
doing.
Suddenly,
a
big
puff
of
white
smoke
shot
out
from
the
ferryboat’s
side,
and
as
it
spread
and
rose
in
a
lazy
cloud,
that
same
dull
thud
of
sound
reached
the
listeners
again.
“I
know
now!”
Tom
exclaimed.
“Somebody’s
drowned!”
“That’s
it!”
said
Huck.
“They
did
that
last
summer
when
Bill
Turner
drowned;
they
shoot
a
cannon
over
the
water,
and
that
makes
the
body
come
up.
Yes,
and
they
put
quicksilver
in
loaves
of
bread
and
set
them
afloat,
and
wherever
there’s
a
drowned
person,
they’ll
float
right
there
and
stop.”
