Las aventuras de Tom Sawyer
Capítulo 16, Página 7
"So
do
I!
And
when
we
tell
them
we
learned
while
we
were
off
pirating,
won't
they
wish
they'd
come
along?"
"Oh,
I
bet
they
will!"
So
the
conversation
went
on.
But
soon
it
began
to
slow
down
and
become
disjointed.
The
silences
grew
longer;
their
spitting
increased
dramatically.
The
boys'
cheeks
were
like
fountains;
they
could
barely
keep
from
flooding
their
mouths.
Little
spills
went
down
their
throats
despite
their
efforts,
and
sudden
gagging
followed
each
time.
Both
boys
looked
pale
and
miserable
now.
Joe's
pipe
slipped
from
his
limp
fingers.
Tom's
did
too.
Both
were
spitting
furiously
and
struggling
to
keep
up.
Joe
weakly
said:
"I've
lost
my
knife.
I
think
I
better
go
find
it."
Tom
said,
with
trembling
lips
and
uncertain
speech:
"I'll
help
you.
You
go
that
way,
and
I'll
search
by
the
spring.
No,
don't
come,
Huck—we
can
find
it."
So
Huck
sat
down
again
and
waited
an
hour.
Then
he
felt
lonely
and
went
to
find
his
friends.
They
were
far
apart
in
the
woods,
both
very
pale,
both
fast
asleep.
But
he
sensed
that
if
they
had
any
trouble,
they
had
gotten
over
it.
They
weren't
very
talkative
at
dinner
that
night.
They
looked
humble,
and
when
Huck
prepared
his
pipe
after
the
meal
and
offered
to
prepare
theirs,
they
declined,
saying
they
weren't
feeling
well—something
they
ate
at
lunch
had
disagreed
with
them.
