Las aventuras de Tom Sawyer
Capítulo 23, Página 1
Finally,
the
sleepy
village
atmosphere
was
shaken
up—the
murder
trial
began
in
court.
It
immediately
became
the
main
topic
of
conversation
among
the
villagers.
Tom
couldn't
escape
it.
Every
mention
of
the
murder
sent
chills
down
his
spine,
as
his
guilty
conscience
and
fears
almost
convinced
him
that
these
remarks
were
directed
at
him
as
"feelers."
He
couldn't
see
how
he
could
be
suspected
of
knowing
anything
about
the
murder,
yet
he
couldn't
feel
at
ease
amid
this
gossip.
It
kept
him
in
a
constant
state
of
anxiety.
He
took
Huck
to
a
secluded
spot
to
talk.
It
would
be
a
relief
to
speak
openly
for
a
while,
to
share
his
burden
with
another
who
understood.
Besides,
he
wanted
to
be
sure
Huck
had
kept
their
secret.
"Huck,
have
you
ever
told
anyone
about—that?"
"About
what?"
"You
know
what."
"Oh—of
course
I
haven't."
"Not
a
single
word?"
"Not
a
solitary
word,
so
help
me.
Why
do
you
ask?"
"Well,
I
was
worried."
