Las aventuras de Tom Sawyer
Capítulo 29, Página 2
Becky
thought
for
a
moment
and
then
said:
“But
what
will
mom
say?”
“How
will
she
ever
find
out?”
Becky
considered
this
and
said
hesitantly:
“I
guess
it’s
wrong,
but—”
“Oh,
come
on!
Your
mom
won’t
know,
so
what’s
the
harm?
All
she
wants
is
for
you
to
be
safe,
and
I
bet
she’d
have
said
go
there
if
she’d
thought
of
it.
I’m
sure
she
would!”
The
thought
of
Widow
Douglas’
generous
hospitality
was
too
tempting
to
resist.
With
Tom’s
convincing,
Becky
agreed.
They
decided
not
to
tell
anyone
about
their
plan
for
the
night.
Tom
then
realized
Huck
might
come
that
night
and
give
the
signal.
This
thought
dampened
his
enthusiasm
a
bit.
Still,
he
couldn’t
bring
himself
to
give
up
the
fun
at
Widow
Douglas’.
Why
should
he,
he
reasoned—the
signal
didn’t
come
the
night
before,
so
why
would
it
come
tonight?
The
guaranteed
fun
of
the
evening
outweighed
the
uncertain
treasure,
and,
like
any
boy,
he
decided
to
follow
his
stronger
desire
and
not
think
about
the
money
box
for
the
rest
of
the
day.
Three
miles
downstream,
the
ferryboat
stopped
at
the
entrance
of
a
wooded
hollow
and
tied
up.
The
crowd
poured
onto
the
shore,
and
soon
the
forest
was
filled
with
shouts
and
laughter.
They
tried
every
way
to
get
hot
and
tired,
and
eventually,
they
returned
to
camp
with
big
appetites,
ready
to
devour
the
food.
After
the
feast,
they
enjoyed
a
relaxing
time
chatting
under
the
shade
of
spreading
oaks.
Eventually,
someone
shouted:
