Las aventuras de Tom Sawyer
Capítulo 6, Página 16
The
master's
pulse
stopped,
and
he
stared
helplessly.
The
buzz
of
study
ceased.
The
students
wondered
if
this
reckless
boy
had
lost
his
mind.
The
master
said:
"You—you
did
what?"
"Stopped
to
talk
with
Huckleberry
Finn."
There
was
no
mistaking
the
words.
"Thomas
Sawyer,
this
is
the
most
shocking
confession
I
have
ever
heard.
No
simple
punishment
will
suffice
for
this
offense.
Take
off
your
jacket."
The
master's
arm
worked
until
it
was
tired
and
the
supply
of
switches
was
notably
reduced.
Then
the
order
followed:
"Now,
sir,
go
and
sit
with
the
girls!
And
let
this
be
a
warning
to
you."
The
giggle
that
rippled
around
the
room
seemed
to
embarrass
the
boy,
but
in
reality,
it
was
more
due
to
his
awe
of
his
unknown
idol
and
the
thrilling
pleasure
of
his
good
fortune.
He
sat
down
at
the
end
of
the
pine
bench,
and
the
girl
moved
away
from
him
with
a
toss
of
her
head.
Nudges,
winks,
and
whispers
spread
across
the
room,
but
Tom
sat
still,
with
his
arms
on
the
long,
low
desk
before
him,
and
seemed
to
study
his
book.
