Las aventuras de Tom Sawyer
Capítulo 6, Página 17
Eventually,
the
class's
attention
drifted
away
from
him,
and
the
usual
school
noise
filled
the
room
again.
Soon,
the
boy
started
sneaking
glances
at
the
girl.
She
noticed,
made
a
face
at
him,
and
turned
her
head
away
for
a
moment.
When
she
cautiously
looked
back,
a
peach
was
in
front
of
her.
She
pushed
it
away.
Tom
gently
placed
it
back.
She
pushed
it
away
again,
but
less
forcefully
this
time.
Tom
patiently
put
it
back.
Finally,
she
left
it
there.
Tom
wrote
on
his
slate,
"Please
take
it—I
have
more."
The
girl
glanced
at
the
words
but
didn't
react.
The
boy
then
began
drawing
on
the
slate,
shielding
his
work
with
his
hand.
At
first,
the
girl
ignored
him,
but
her
curiosity
eventually
got
the
better
of
her,
showing
in
small
gestures.
The
boy
continued,
seemingly
unaware.
Finally,
she
gave
in
and
whispered
hesitantly:
"Let
me
see
it."
Tom
partially
revealed
a
rough
drawing
of
a
house
with
two
gables
and
a
wisp
of
smoke
from
the
chimney.
The
girl's
interest
grew,
and
she
forgot
everything
else.
Once
it
was
done,
she
looked
at
it
for
a
moment,
then
whispered:
"It's
nice—draw
a
man."
The
artist
added
a
figure
in
the
yard
that
looked
like
a
crane.
It
could
have
stepped
over
the
house,
but
the
girl
wasn't
picky.
She
was
happy
with
the
giant
and
whispered:
"It's
a
beautiful
man—now
draw
me
walking
by."
Tom
drew
an
hourglass
figure
with
a
round
head
and
thin
limbs,
giving
it
a
large
fan
in
its
hand.
The
girl
said:
"It's
so
nice—I
wish
I
could
draw."
