Las aventuras de Tom Sawyer
Capítulo 7, Página 9
"Oh,
Tom!
So
I'm
not
the
first
girl
you've
been
engaged
to!"
Becky
started
to
cry.
Tom
said:
"Oh,
don't
cry,
Becky.
I
don't
care
about
her
anymore."
"Yes,
you
do,
Tom—you
know
you
do."
Tom
tried
to
put
his
arm
around
her
neck,
but
she
pushed
him
away,
turned
to
the
wall,
and
continued
crying.
He
tried
again,
speaking
softly,
but
she
rejected
him
once
more.
Then
his
pride
kicked
in,
and
he
walked
outside.
He
stood
around,
feeling
restless
and
uneasy,
glancing
at
the
door
now
and
then,
hoping
she
would
change
her
mind
and
come
to
him.
But
she
didn't.
He
started
to
feel
guilty
and
feared
he
might
be
wrong.
It
was
tough
for
him
to
make
another
move,
but
he
gathered
his
courage
and
went
back
in.
She
was
still
in
the
corner,
sobbing,
facing
the
wall.
Tom
felt
a
pang
of
guilt.
He
approached
her
and
stood
there,
unsure
of
what
to
do
next.
Then
he
said
hesitantly:
"Becky,
I—I
only
care
about
you."
No
response—just
sobs.
"Becky,"
he
pleaded.
"Becky,
can't
you
say
something?"
