El Gran Gatsby
Capítulo 1, Página 3
I
lived
in
a
strange
place
near
New
York.
There
are
two
big
pieces
of
land
called
eggs.
They
look
the
same
but
are
very
different.
I
lived
at
West
Egg.
It
was
not
as
nice
as
East
Egg.
My
house
was
small
and
near
the
water.
Next
to
me
was
a
big
mansion.
It
was
Gatsby's
house.
My
house
was
not
pretty,
but
I
could
see
the
water
and
the
big
houses.
I
paid
eighty
dollars
a
month.
Across
the
bay,
the
big
white
houses
of
East
Egg
shone
by
the
water.
My
summer
story
begins
when
I
drove
there
for
dinner
with
Tom
and
Daisy
Buchanan.
Daisy
is
my
cousin,
and
I
knew
Tom
from
college.
After
the
war,
I
visited
them
in
Chicago
for
two
days.
Tom
was
strong
and
played
football
at
New
Haven.
He
was
famous
and
very
rich.
Even
in
college,
he
spent
money
easily.
Now,
he
moved
East
and
brought
polo
ponies
from
Lake
Forest.
It
was
surprising
to
see
someone
my
age
with
so
much
money.
I
did
not
know
why
they
came
East.
They
lived
in
France
for
a
year,
then
moved
around
where
rich
people
played
polo.
Daisy
said
on
the
phone
this
move
was
for
good,
but
I
did
not
believe
her.
I
thought
Tom
would
keep
looking
for
excitement
like
an
old
football
game.
On
a
warm,
windy
night,
I
drove
to
East
Egg
to
see
my
old
friends.
Their
house
was
more
fancy
than
I
thought.
It
was
a
big
red-and-white
mansion
by
the
bay.
The
lawn
went
from
the
beach
to
the
front
door,
with
sundials
and
gardens.
Tom
stood
on
the
porch
in
riding
clothes.
